Wijnand Durk Langeraar
Wijnand is an expert in mapping and spatial analysis using GIS, satellite remote sensing, and GPS integration. He has applied this expertise to many projects around the world, in disciplines ranging from GIS modelling of land use scenarios, GPS surveying, disaster management and environmental and resource modelling.
He has also provided technical assistance to census and survey activities in several countries. He was the Mapping Manager for the 2004 census in Timor-Leste, where he has contributed to many other projects and training courses. Some other censuses in which Wijnand has been involved are those of Abu Dhabi, the Fiji Islands, Mongolia and Vanuatu.
He has also advised and trained in mapping and modelling at the statistical institutes of Mozambique, Gabon, Iraqi Kurdistan and Afghanistan. In Gabon, for example, he trained staff in sampling techniques applied to land use surveys, while in Afghanistan he provided GIS and mapping support to the National Risk and Vulnerability Assessment.
Wijnand is fluent in Dutch, English, French and Bahasa Indonesia; he lives on Bali.
