Álvaro Canales
Alvaro's experience in survey management covers household surveys, impact evaluations and census activities; data management, training, and data quality assurance. His contributions have ranged from designing questionnaires, through developing and testing data-entry programs, to planning and supervising field operations.
For example, he has participated in impact evaluations of Health Results-Based Financing schemes in Benin, Rwanda and Zimbabwe; Household Income and Expenditure Surveys in Papua New Guinea and Rwanda; and both a Demographic and Health Survey and a Living Standards Survey in Timor Leste.
He has addressed international conferences on data collection and quality control, and helped to research and edit a reference guide for survey managers.
Alvaro's academic background is as an environmental and social psychologist. He holds degrees from the Universidad Central de Chile and the Sorbonne and has taught at various universities in Santiago, where he lives. He speaks Spanish, French and English.
